| County Success for Broxbourne Girls Tennis Team. |
| On Sunday the U15 Broxbourne girls team (comprising Kate Hill, Daniella Gallagher, Melissa Deacon, Steffi Apicella and Hannah Booth) competed at Queenswood in the the Herts Knockout Cup. This is an annual team event for clubs and schools throughout the county. The day started early with the first matches being played at 9am. Kate Hill & Daniella Gallagher each played a singles match then Steffi Apicella & Melissa Deacon played the doubles against a strong Cuffley team, our girls played brilliantly and won the round. Next up was Queenswood, whose girls were much higher rated than ours. Steffi played a very long match and Kate played the doubles with Hannah Booth but the other team were too strong. Last up was Townsend, again there were some very good matches and the girls found themselves through to the semi finals. Steffi & Melissa paired up again to win the doubles match, but the higher rated singles players from Berkhamsted were too strong for Kate & Daniella in the final two singles matches. It was a fantastic achievement to reach the semis against some of the best teams in the county. Well done to all the girls who played some outstanding tennis. Our boys are on next week – they now have something to live up to! |

Broxbourne Tennis Club - a section
of Broxbourne Sports Club has achieved Tennis
Clubmark accreditation. This is in recognition
of the club having high standards in Club Planning,
its Tennis Programme, Policies and Procedures
and Club Management. We are among the first
group of clubs in Hertfordshire to achieve
this and we are committed to maintaining these
standards for the benefit of our adult and
junior members. We knew our coaches, our committee
and our volunteers were doing a good job -
it's good that has now been recognised by the
LTA. This is a great platform to boost our
fortunes in 2009. Well done to all involved! |

Broxbourne
Tennis Club's club championship recently saw the
emergence of a new triple champion in Harry James
at just 15 years of age. Harry started the day in
a gripping 3 set match against Luke Power. He then
paired up with John Conway and together they beat
Phil Cowley and Terry Pook for the men's doubles
crown. The last match of the day was yet another
tense 3-setter for Harry, this time with his mixed
doubles partner Gaye Hill. |
| Elsewhere,
Andrea Todd was unsuccessful in defending her triple
crown from last year as she came runner-up in the
mixed doubles event with her partner Richard Gaunt.
Andrea was successful against Sarah Washington in
the ladies' singles final, and together with partner
Caroline May won a thrilling 3 set match against
runners-up Jenny Stocker and Wendy Silk. |
