| Broxbourne’s 9 and under team win their AEGON County League Division |
Congratulations to our young players who beat teams from Welwyn and Wheathampstead and gained a draw against David Lloyd Hatfield.
Our team were (from left to right in the photo) Rachel Booth, Abby Clark, Leon George, River Steele and Nicholas Napolitano. For most of these children it was their first experience of playing at mini tennis orange level which is played on a specially marked out court shorter and narrower than a full sized tennis court, and with low compression orange balls to allow more control.
The matches are best of 3 tie break sets and each member of the team of 4 plays 2 singles and 1 doubles rubber. This is their first taste of playing doubles, and the Broxbourne team won all but one of the doubles rubbers.
Two of the players – Rachel Booth and Leon George had 100% record winning all of their 6 singles matches. |

| Mini Tennis Tournament |
During the Easter Holidays we ran another succesful Mini Tennis Tournament, with 26 children ranging in age from 6 to 10 years competing. The mini red tournament was particularly well supported with 16 children playing, including several from other clubs. The standard of tennis was very good with some extremely close matches. |
All the matches were umpired, some by the coaches, Mike, Dom & Becky and the others by some of our older junior members - Kate, Melissa, Hannah, Jason & Alex. |
Sarah & Briony organised the matches on the day and Sue James & Wendy Wilkinson served refreshments. Club members who won their group include Millie Hoffman, Leon George and Giorgio Daniel at red level, Rachel Booth at orange and Samantha Wheeler at green. |
All results have been sent to the LTA to help with the players ratings. Congratulations to all who entered & played, it was a very enjoyable day and we even made a profit of just over £100! |

| County Success for Broxbourne Girls Tennis Team. |
| On Sunday the U15 Broxbourne girls team (comprising Kate Hill, Daniella Gallagher, Melissa Deacon, Steffi Apicella and Hannah Booth) competed at Queenswood in the the Herts Knockout Cup. This is an annual team event for clubs and schools throughout the county. The day started early with the first matches being played at 9am. Kate Hill & Daniella Gallagher each played a singles match then Steffi Apicella & Melissa Deacon played the doubles against a strong Cuffley team, our girls played brilliantly and won the round. Next up was Queenswood, whose girls were much higher rated than ours. Steffi played a very long match and Kate played the doubles with Hannah Booth but the other team were too strong. Last up was Townsend, again there were some very good matches and the girls found themselves through to the semi finals. Steffi & Melissa paired up again to win the doubles match, but the higher rated singles players from Berkhamsted were too strong for Kate & Daniella in the final two singles matches. It was a fantastic achievement to reach the semis against some of the best teams in the county. Well done to all the girls who played some outstanding tennis. Our boys are on next week – they now have something to live up to! |

| Tennis Clubmark |
 |
Broxbourne Tennis Club - a section
of Broxbourne Sports Club has achieved Tennis
Clubmark accreditation. This is in recognition
of the club having high standards in Club Planning,
its Tennis Programme, Policies and Procedures
and Club Management. We are among the first
group of clubs in Hertfordshire to achieve
this and we are committed to maintaining these
standards for the benefit of our adult and
junior members. We knew our coaches, our committee
and our volunteers were doing a good job -
it's good that has now been recognised by the
LTA. This is a great platform to boost our
fortunes in 2009. Well done to all involved! |
